Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims First Championship in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after spring of 2023.
The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.
His defensive approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.
Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.
The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.
He defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
